HOITS (Helicopter Operations Initial Training) – HLO/HDA

The aim and objectives of the Offshore Helideck Operations Initial Training Program are to equip the delegate with the initial knowledge, understanding and skills required to perform the roles of Helicopter Landing Officers (HLOs) and Helideck Assistants (HDAs) safely and effectively. This Level 1 Program is the theoretical component of the training program.
On completion of online training (Level-1), the delegate will need to complete a comprehensive onsite development program and practical workplace assessment (Level-2). This will be completed by the Duty Holder in accordance with the detailed criteria and syllabus that we provide. Please contact us should you wish to register for the practical (Level 2) component.
Additional training, as determined by the Duty Holder, in offshore site-specific elements is required before appointment to the HLO and/or HDA role.

There are 2 methods to complete the practical training and competency assessment:
- An instructor is sent to conduct the practical training and assessment on site.
- Alternatively, the duty holder on the platform is provided with the practical assessment criteria and competency evidence requirements. After completion of the assessment, the information is returned to our instructors for final certification.

The use of cell phones during training is frowned upon (discouraged). If you are ‘on call’, please put your phone on ‘silent’ on your desk and leave the room to take the call. Courses held at Cranfield are all interactive and your instructor will encourage participation, where appropriate. We provide a light lunch between courses which is included in the price, is not compulsory and you are welcome to bring your own if you have dietary challenges (preferences). We have delegates from all over our continent with different beliefs, dress codes, and everyone is very welcome.
