This training program is designed to give BSO’s Base Station Radio Operators the knowledge required to effectively and efficiently communicate on Aeronautical radio frequencies. The course covers various aspects regarding radio communications with Air Traffic Controllers and other pilots.
Important Note: Information contained in training manuals such as transition altitudes, frequencies etc may be subject to change and manuals should therefore not be used for flight planning purposes. Reference must be made to the valid and official publications issued by the Civil Aviation Authority.
This course covers:
- Basic use of the radio to assist and support aircrew in safe and efficient flight operations.
- Procedures and regulations pertaining to Base Station Operators Radio Telephony.

The use of cell phones during training is frowned upon (discouraged). If you are ‘on call’, please put your phone on ‘silent’ on your desk and leave the room to take the call. Courses held at Cranfield are all interactive and your instructor will encourage participation, where appropriate. We provide a light lunch between courses which is included in the price, is not compulsory and you are welcome to bring your own if you have dietary challenges (preferences). We have delegates from all over our continent with different beliefs, dress codes, and everyone is very welcome.
